The Pond’s 100th Birthday Celebration!

On Monday 8 June 2026, exactly 100 years since the Ladies’ Pond first opened to the public, the KLPA celebrated the centenary. Despite grey skies and drizzle, one hundred KLPA members volunteered to participate in a synchronised swim under the expert guidance of lifeguard Tania Soloijova, a former member of the Lithuanian national synchronised swimming team. Swimmers formed the figure 100 in the water, with careful and professional management of the event by the Ladies’ Pond lifeguard team led by Nicola Hurley.

The City of London provided a drone video camera, operated by Jack O’Brien, to record the occasion, while KLPA member and professional photographer Ruth Corney captured still images of the swim and the party atmosphere that prevailed both before and after the swim as hungry swimmers warded off the chill with hot drinks and cake.

Thanks are due to the KLPA committee for organising this unique event and to everyone from the KLPA and the City of London who made it such a success.
